The first show I ever fell in love with was Jane the Virgin. Not only is it the perfect ratio of wacky and attention-grabbing to authentic and heart-warming, but it also does an incredible job with representation. Gina Rodriguez, Andrea Navedo, and Ivonne Coll portray the Villanuevas- three generations of Venezuelan women who have a relationship so endearing that it would inspire anyone to want to be better. This show is able to discuss serious topics, like immigration and abortion, without completely shifting from the central themes and the magical realism Jennie Snyder Urman beautifully incorporates into every single episode. This show is entirely the reason I am who I am today and why I love to do what I do, to an extent that I'm not even sure how to put it into words (which is saying a lot, since normally it's impossible to get me to stop). I've watched this show over and over again, and so everytime I rewatch it from this point on I will attempt to add to this post one more example of how this show is exactly what we need more of- unabashed culture, equity, and love.
